we see so many faces in any given day. i'm amazed sometimes at how we can, after a glance, remember someone for the rest of our lives. or, we may see a familiar person with a particular look on their face, and never forget the way they looked in that moment. this is a kid called orlando who i saw a lot of when we were in santa ana, honduras, on the el salvador border. it seemed every waking moment, even when we held clinic, this guy and his posse were either looking in the window, watching us read, or playing futbol or frisbee with us. when i took his photo, he did not move a muscle. no pretense, no smiling (obviously), he just continued to look at me like he always did, and as he'll remain in my mind. we've moved on to nicaragua now, and in the next few days will start work in a clinic in san jose, costa rica. think about the faces you see today, and who will you remember?
