I haven't posted anything for a while, so I thought I'd post something from my new neighborhood in NYC, and two photos from Cape Spear, Newfoundland... the easternmost point of N America (so they say!).
The doctors' work area. Every single chair taped together. Because, sometimes, sitting down really does slow down your productivity...
Want to see what the life of EM residents are while their IM/Peds counterparts slave away 80+ hours a week? Building swing sets and stuff... Anyways, until Dan gets off his lazy butt and makes a post, I'll post some pics of the girls that he's sending me. As you can see, they love their new swing set.
More pictures below the fold...
I feel like I've lost most of my inspiration to photograph. I don't really know why. Anyone else ever feels like one is in a slump that just can't be gotten out of? I just feel like every shot I take is the same...
Anyways, this photo was from vacation. (yay!) back to the grind, intern year is quickly coming to a close. Of course, I'm gonna end the year with bang - MICU, followed by medicine wards. My last two blocks promise to be the most painful of my entire year. True to form, however, I will then proceed into child development, NICU and outpatient pediatrics to kick off my second year. Yay!
Oh, and congrats to you matchers! I hope intern year will treat you all as well as it has treated me.
Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything... I have two new cameras - a canon sd800 that I got as a replacement when my trusty old s230 became not-so-trusty (thank goodness for warrantees) and a panasonic dmc-fz20 hand-me-down from my dad when he decided to go D-SLR. And the picture I post? From the cell phone, actually. *shrug*
So I finally feel competent as an intern. Seven admissions in an evening? No problem! I can do that without breaking a sweat, I might even be done with my paperwork by one AM... the little things, though, like knowing the all the lab values and culture results? umm... I might have to go back to medical school, as I swear I've lost all my med student skills. sigh.
Oh yeah, the picture. That's the view I get of the train station every morning, waiting for the train. 4:30AM, 30-40 degrees, the winds blowing by... it's pretty miserable. I can't even imagine having to deal with snow.
Happy New Year, this year things are going to be different, things are going to be better... I hope!
I've taken a lot of pictures at the Rockefeller Center over the years, pretty much every time I've been to New York in winter. Yet somehow I never tire of it.
It's kind of a busy shot, but at least it's colorful.
So my short little trip to the east coast. It was awesome seeing Amit and the Gearys (Gearies?). I have to say thanks again for them hosting me and spending time with me, despite both Amit and Dan having pretty insane work schedules during the time of my visit. Anyways, hopefully more to come later.
Yes, still alive... it has been nearly 6 weeks since I've posted in earnest, eh? It's not so much that I'm busy as much as things have stabilized. My residency-hating has mostly abated, seeing as now I'm in the middle of my vacation. It's amazing how much perspective you can get when you get enough sleep. It's nice to feel happy in my residency choice, something that's taken less time than I really expected. I remember college didn't truly feel comfortable until 3rd year, and med school until 2nd year. Maybe I'm adapting faster.
Anyways, the photo above is from about a month ago, I think. Kiran had vacation, so he and Sandeep flew out from the east coast to Vegas, and Eric and I met up with them there. Leaving Friday after work, we didn't really get there until almost midnight... We found them in the Venetian rather drunk, and I'm not ashamed to say we might have joined them in the festivities. I managed to break the glass on my first drink, a testament to Kiran's drinking prowess (he chose the drink, after all). We wandered around the casino, and I watched Eric and Kiran play War. Yes, that stupid card game we all used to play when we were young and bored. Despite my mockery, they managed to win some money. 'deep didn't fare so well at roulette.
So anyways, we ended up in a cheesecake factory inside the casino, and we ordered beer. The remainder of the night was a bit of a blur. Suffice to say, we got kicked out and apparently we're no longer welcome at the Venetian... Next thing you know we're walking along the interstate-15 at 4 am trying to figure out a way to cross back to the side where we were staying. We did eventually find the hotel, and crashed, and hence Kiran above.
Sadly, we had to drive back after sampling the lunch buffet. I don't think we were even in Vegas 12 hours, but I was on-call the next day, after all. Medicine wards no less...
Anyways, seeing as I'm on vacation, I should take some new pictures! Particularly since my camera broke, and I got a shiny new one. Gotta love extended warrantees...
Welcome Dan! Also known as "Dan the Man," danry hails from my favorite American city not touching an ocean, St. Louis. To learn more about him, check out the "about us" link above!
here are some photos from after my EM month, went down to hatteras with friends. this is pretty much me at my happiest, just out of the water after getting pummelled by 10 foot waves!
we stayed at a beautiful campsite called frisco woods (for randall's sake i should clarify that its the east coast frisco) which actually is on the west coast of hatteras island, on pamilco sound. my bro tommy was juggling fire sticks, which i found immensely entertaining.
here are four of us heading out at about 645 for "dawn patrol" at a beach south of the lighthouse. from left in this loch-ness-monster-style photo are jon, adam, myself, and tommy. by the ways i must give credit to kendra for this photo, and jon for the top photo. as you guys can probably see from my entry, I LOVE FOURTH YEAR! i know next year as an intern my life will just be one butt-kicking after another, but i might as well enjoy this one while it lasts...true, kevin?
