I've been out in Irvine since Sunday, living it up of course. I went home tonight to have dinner with my folks, and I went early to beat the LA traffic, which I didn't succeed in doing even at 2:30pm. Traffic has definitely gotten worse...
I got home without too much delay, which meant I got home way too early and had nothing at all to do. So I decided to replace the strings on my dad's stratocaster, which were a wreck. I went down to the music store, bought some strings, but I put on the 1st string without enough slack and didn't have tuning room - and when I loosened it, it snapped! The music store was closed and I really wanted to play guitar, so I borrowed my bro's guitar. His strings were even worse, and his 4th string snapped from just tuning. So now I had two broken guitars and nothing to play for all my efforts. Just one of those days...
Luckily in the end, my dad did have an extra set of strings that he got for me when I got home, and I fixed up the strat. He didn't really want to let me borrow it though, so now I have to use my brother's cheap guitar... doh!
I haven't had a chance to post much of anything lately in regards to text and such, just the photofriday stuff. Surgery is pretty brutal, as always. Three weeks until I have my life back. In fact, I'm on call tonight. What can I do? On the other hand, this time has given me a chance to really soul search, and I think I'm going to really be able to graduate med school satisfied with my career decision. I hope...
So I think this was from one of my last nights out before this rotation... The sunglasses may be Umakant's, but the look is all me...
Shelton was playing at Chases, so we went en masse and practically took over the bar. It's been a long while since I've been to that place. I was a little drunk, but managed to discover a new way to use my camera.
Shelton on the guitar and Brian with the vocals. The shot is a combo of long-exposure (3.2 seconds to be exact) and flash fill. I discovered it accidentally when I turned on my flash but forgot to turn off the long-exposure setting in my inebriated state. The effect is to freeze the action but continue to record all the detail in the background... The streaks of light are from me pulling the camera too quickly. Cool photo though, eh? Click on the photo for a larger version.
I took a few more, mostly buddy shots, see them past the fold.
Spent the evening at one of Norfolk's fading locales, "Duck In." A small restaurant/bar with a gazebo on the beach. Took this picture:
New page about the writers...
This website has been on the same server for over 5 years, and it was high time to move. It stopped getting support somewhere back on php 4.1.2 or something. So new server, wohoo!
Mildly related, 3rd year is finally over! The internal medicine exam was hard. Very hard. I-really-hope-I-pass hard. As I was taking it, I kept thinking of things I could've done differently. But hey, what can you do.
Dan took this test with me today, but I think Kevin still has his boards coming up Monday... so why's he playing burnout 3?!
