Today has been the worst day. ugh. I got stuck in traffic on my second day to work (yesterday I left earlier - who knew 15 min can make such a difference), then parked in the wrong lot and was 20 min late to conference. Then I had to move my car and was over an hour late to work. Insert other chaotic things. At least we had macaroni grill catered for lunch, that was awesome.
On the up side though, I am really enjoying peds cardiology! I've been surprised how interesting it is, especially because 1. I suck at cards, especially murmurs and 2. I'm mostly shadowing and have very little autonomy in this rotation. It's very cool to see interesting pathology on a daily basis, something that doesn't necessarily happen with primary care. This has been very refreshing, as I had been questioning whether or not I even wanted to specialize (primary care has been very appealing lately). I know that cards has been "the trend" lately, but I'm thinking this could possibly be a career for me. I'll have to see how the rest of the rotation goes. Meanwhile, I think I'll go study...
A shoutout to my east coast friends, some of whom I imagine may never have seen the sun set over the ocean...
It's not the greatest photo, but it's mostly untouched. For some reason, I couldn't seem to do much to edit it. Maybe I should've shot it RAW like Kevin suggests.
I still have to see the sun rise over the Atlantic before leaving the East Coast, if indeed I do leave.
I've been out in Irvine since Sunday, living it up of course. I went home tonight to have dinner with my folks, and I went early to beat the LA traffic, which I didn't succeed in doing even at 2:30pm. Traffic has definitely gotten worse...
I got home without too much delay, which meant I got home way too early and had nothing at all to do. So I decided to replace the strings on my dad's stratocaster, which were a wreck. I went down to the music store, bought some strings, but I put on the 1st string without enough slack and didn't have tuning room - and when I loosened it, it snapped! The music store was closed and I really wanted to play guitar, so I borrowed my bro's guitar. His strings were even worse, and his 4th string snapped from just tuning. So now I had two broken guitars and nothing to play for all my efforts. Just one of those days...
Luckily in the end, my dad did have an extra set of strings that he got for me when I got home, and I fixed up the strat. He didn't really want to let me borrow it though, so now I have to use my brother's cheap guitar... doh!
Wow, four months in California. Wohoo! Hopefully this will go well. I've obviously never had a chance to practice medicine (or really, pretend to practice medicine) away from school before... so I haven't had much chance to see what medical students from more prestigious schools are like. I'm excited and scared all at the same time... luckily I start of somewhat low-key with a peds cardiology rotation. So I left Norfolk yesterday, and the day before people were making a big deal of my departure. I'm not sure why, but what the hey. I got to eat dinner with the Gearys and with Kevin.
She's growing up pretty fast! 15 months, and she hasn't been afraid of me for quite a while now. I believe the next time I see her, she'll have a little sibling. Boy? Girl? They won't tell me...
More pictures from the evening, including one of Kiran molesting Amit, below the fold.
