Low res

Anyone else feel the resolution of the photos is too low?  A width of 480 is kind of totalitarian, imo.  I think I'm gonna switch up the layout soon, to something without the ridiculously large sidebar.

So studying in earnest for step 2 starts tomorrow.  I'm kind of easing my way into it.  30 pages yesterday, 50 pages today (hopefully, I still have 15 to go), and 60 pages a day with 50-100 questions on top starting tomorrow.  Eek.  It's been a long time since I've put in 8-12 hours a day in front of a book.  I don't particularly want to push back the date of my exam though...  Meanwhile, I'll try to write some sort of a personal statement, ask for letters of recommendation, fill out my residency application and figure out how to finalize my schedule this year, etc.  And here I thought I was done with this applying stuff 3 years ago.

So I've been jumping from hobby to hobby recently, and I've picked back up photography recently.  This blog is probably to blame.  Let's see how long I can keep it up, and how far I can take myself creatively.  I've never been a really creative person, so it's something that'll take some time to develop, I suspect.  Photo Friday (see my last post) is my latest idea on how to challenge myself to stay interested.  They have a new theme each Friday, and everyone gets to submit one picture a week.

Anyways, back to work.

i felt like that when i first started my pics at a width of 400... so i bumped it up to 500 and i've been happy. whenever a pic has more detail that i wanna show more of, i link to a larger (usually 800-1000px width) version of it, but keep the main photo on my site at 500 so it stays uniform. i guess cause the stupid computers at work were so low-res that the pics took up most the monitor already, i didn't wanna go higher. my stats say that i have visitors with monitor res of 800x600... so i'm pretty much maxed out already.

by the way, how do you like serendipity? i haven't worked on my blog at all... i need to do it soon!

serendipity is pretty good. :-) I haven't had time to really customize the look, though, and the built-in templates are kinda bland. That's one thing wordpress has going for it. otherwise, serendipity has proven to be pretty solid and pretty easy to use. It's nice being able to just upload pictures directly into serendipity and post them.

yeah, the thumbnailing thing is a toughie, since photofriday doesn't allow thumbnails... serendipity has full thumbnailing support though, it generates them as you upload pics. I'm not really a fan of thumbnails anyways, I prefer the in-line images. :-)
