Monterey
I woke up this morning in a motel in the middle of the mountains. No joke. I'm in Highland County, VA for the week to work with a rural doctor (and enjoy the county fair). The drive last night was near magical. There are 3 mountain ranges to cross between here and Staunton, VA and by the time I was navigating their winding turns a fog had settled in the area. In between the mountains, where the fog was thickest, is where there are "towns" of 6 to 8 houses each. The lights from these windows, muffled in the fog, the deers grazing on the side of the road, and not being able to see past 15 ft in any direction had me feeling like I was in the middle of some of my favorite children's books from back in the day. Unfortunately I was too nervous to pull over and take any pictures fearing a car would come by in the fog and run me over (or a crazed psychopath with a chainsaw would drop from a tree and attack me).
Luckily the public library has internet so I should be able to post some pictures soon. I just acquired a Nikon D70 and will be putting it through it's paces at the county fair here. In the meantime, I've posted some test pictures here and have also converted a blogger site into a photo page here which I'll be posting PhotoFriday submissions to.
